On April 14, the Equipment Industry Development Department I of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Traffic Management Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), and the Transport Services Department of the Ministry of Transport (MOT) jointly convened a working conference on road testing and pilot applications of intelligent connected vehicles to deploy self-inspection and rectification efforts and strengthen safety oversight. The meeting required local authorities to conduct comprehensive self-assessments in light of recent safety incidents, identify and analyze key issues, and implement corrective measures accordingly. It also called for establishing and improving working mechanisms, refining management policies, enhancing safety supervision throughout the entire process, and strengthening emergency response capabilities to ensure that testing and pilot activities proceed safely and in an orderly manner. Relevant departments will continue to improve the regulatory framework for autonomous driving, establish a three-tiered evaluation mechanism—national, local, and enterprise-level—for assessing technological maturity and safety, and bolster emergency support capabilities to provide high-level safety assurance for the high-quality development of the industry.
