Volvo officially launched nationwide pre-sales on April 15 for its all-new flagship electric sedan, the ES90. The model is offered in two variants: the rear-wheel-drive Long Range Plus and the dual-motor all-wheel-drive high-performance Ultra, with pre-sale prices of RMB 429,900 and RMB 499,900, respectively. Built on Volvo’s native luxury electric SPA2 architecture and featuring a full-vehicle 800-volt platform, the ES90 delivers a maximum CLTC-rated range of 848 kilometers. The ES90 carries forward the EX90 family’s design language, featuring a large closed-off front fascia paired with updated “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlights. It measures 5,000 mm in length, 1,942 mm in width, and 1,553 mm (or 1,547 mm) in height, with a wheelbase of 3,102 mm and a curb weight of 2,558 kg. The vehicle sports a fastback silhouette and a liftback tailgate, complemented by flush door handles, aluminum alloy wheels, sequential dynamic taillights, and an hands-free power tailgate. Inside, the cabin adopts Volvo’s latest family-oriented layout, equipped with a steering-column-mounted gear selector, a 9-inch digital instrument cluster, a vertically oriented 14.5-inch central touchscreen, and a head-up display (HUD). Wireless Apple CarPlay is also supported. Below the central screen are crystal-finish function buttons, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and storage compartments. In terms of powertrain and battery options, the ES90 offers three battery configurations: a 77 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack, a 92 kWh ternary lithium pack, and a 106 kWh ternary lithium pack—resulting in five total variants with CLTC ranges of 608 km, 720 km, 777 km, and 848 km. The base model features a single rear-mounted motor producing 240 kW; the mid-spec variant upgrades to a 245 kW rear motor; while the top-tier AWD version employs dual motors (front and rear) delivering a combined output of 500 kW. All variants share a top speed of 180 km/h, a drag coefficient of 0.25, and optional wheel sizes of 20, 21, or 22 inches.
