BMW Group has officially released the official images of the BMW M3 40th Anniversary Edition and announced that the model will make its global debut at the Beijing Auto Show, with market launch expected in the second half of this year. Commemorating the 40th anniversary of the M brand, this special edition will be limited to just 40 units exclusively for the Chinese market, offered in both Sedan and Touring body styles. Designed under the theme of “Heritage and Breakthrough,” the vehicle features a black surround on the iconic kidney grille and darkened headlight clusters, complemented by exclusive badging. “40th Anniversary Edition” insignias appear throughout the car—including on the roof, door sill plates, front seat headrests, and center console cup holder. The Sedan version is finished in Laguna Seca Blue custom paint, paired with black multi-spoke wheels and blue M high-performance brake calipers. The Touring variant comes in Wildberry Red custom paint, equipped with gold-finished 826M multi-spoke wheels and red M high-performance brake calipers. Inside, both models are fitted with M carbon fiber bucket seats, an M multifunction Alcantara steering wheel with heating, and Merino leather upholstery in Silverstone White and Black. The Sedan features Polar Blue contrast stitching, while the Touring uses Amethyst Purple stitching. Exclusive badging also appears on the center console cup holder and seat headrests. Under the hood, both versions retain the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six engine, producing 530 horsepower and 650 Nm of peak torque, mated to an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission and the M xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system. The Sedan achieves a top speed of 290 km/h, while the Touring tops out at 280 km/h.
