Tesla will produce a total of 350 limited-edition Plaid Signature models of the Model S and Model X before discontinuation—250 units of the Model S and 100 units of the Model X. These vehicles feature an exclusive pomegranate red paint finish, gold badging, and unique trim packages, and come with benefits including Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability, complimentary Supercharging, and premium in-car connectivity services. These benefits are non-transferable. Purchasers must sign an agreement prior to vehicle delivery, committing not to sell or attempt to sell the vehicle within one year from the date of delivery. Violation of this clause requires payment of a $50,000 penalty or reimbursement of any profit gained from resale, whichever amount is higher. This measure aims to prevent speculators from quickly flipping these limited-production vehicles for profit. Unlike a similar policy previously attempted—but ultimately abandoned—for the Cybertruck, this agreement includes clearer terms. Combined with the vehicles’ extreme scarcity and the non-transferability of key benefits, it may reduce their appeal in the secondary market and thereby diminish incentives for unauthorized resale.
