On April 17, Lu Fang, Chairman of Voyah Automotive Technology Co., Ltd., stated that the global automotive market has entered a new phase of competition within a stagnant or declining total market size ("stock competition"). He observed that although traffic volumes on highways in countries like France and Germany remain high—indicating sustained economic vitality—the adoption rate of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in Europe remains relatively low, and the penetration of combined driver-assistance systems is even lower. This situation creates market opportunities for China’s intelligent NEVs. Lu also noted significant differences between European and Chinese consumer demands, underscoring the need for targeted product development. Additionally, European automakers are likewise grappling with transformation pressures and weak market conditions; some manufacturers are operating at only 40% to 50% capacity utilization, and profit margin compression has become a global challenge. Lu believes addressing the current predicament requires promoting Sino-foreign collaboration, and China’s technological lead in NEVs could serve as a critical breakthrough. Separately, a survey of 802 U.S. consumers planning to purchase a vehicle within the next two years found that 49% rated the cost-performance ratio of Chinese cars as “very good” or “excellent,” while 40% expressed support for Chinese automotive brands entering the U.S. market. Some American car enthusiasts remarked that Chinese vehicles attract buyers with their efficiency, quietness, and affordability, and they are even considering purchasing BYD vehicles in Mexico and driving them into the United States to access Chinese EVs.
