The 2026 BYD Sealion 05 EV and Sealion 05 DM-i officially launched on April 20. The Sealion 05 EV is offered in three variants, with a manufacturer-suggested retail price (MSRP) ranging from RMB 119,900 to RMB 145,900. The Sealion 05 DM-i comes in five variants, priced between RMB 97,900 and RMB 127,900. The Sealion 05 EV is built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 Evo and features a rear-mounted, rear-wheel-drive layout. All variants are equipped with BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and FlashCharge technology, enabling a 10% to 97% charge in just nine minutes under ambient temperatures, or twelve minutes in extreme cold conditions of -30°C. Two CLTC range options are available: 540 km and 630 km, powered by electric motors delivering 200 kW and 240 kW respectively. The suspension system consists of MacPherson struts at the front and a five-link independent setup at the rear, complemented by the iTAC 2.0 intelligent torque vectoring control system. The vehicle offers a trunk capacity of 600 liters and a front trunk (frunk) of 110 liters, with standard electro-mechanical frunk release functionality. The Sealion 05 DM-i integrates BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid technology, combining a dedicated 1.5L plug-in hybrid engine (peak output: 74 kW) with an electric drive motor (peak output: 120 kW). It is available with two battery options—26.6 kWh and 34.3 kWh—delivering CLTC all-electric ranges of 220 km and 305 km respectively. With a full tank of fuel and a fully charged battery, the combined driving range reaches up to 2,105 km, while its NEDC-rated fuel consumption in charge-depleting mode is as low as 3.1 L/100 km. The chassis uses MacPherson struts upfront and a four-link independent rear suspension, with the Cloud Ride-C intelligent damping body control system standard across all trims. Compared to the previous generation, the all-electric range has increased significantly—from 75 km/115 km to 220 km/305 km—and the starting price has dropped from RMB 102,800 to RMB 97,900. Both models offer an optional LiDAR sensor, upgrading the driver-assistance system to "God’s Eye B" (DiPilot 300) for an additional RMB 9,900. The cabin features the DiLink 150 infotainment system, centered around a 15.6-inch adaptive rotating floating touchscreen that supports four-zone, full-scenario voice control. Exterior styling follows BYD’s unified Ocean Aesthetics design language, featuring a closed-off front grille with a continuous wave-inspired LED light bar and C-shaped headlights. At the rear, a new undulating贯穿式 taillight design debuts, accompanied by two new exterior colors: Seashell Pink and Coral Orange. The vehicle measures 4,620 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, and 1,630 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,770 mm—58 mm longer than the previous DM-i model. Inside, the traditional electronic gear selector has been replaced by a steering-column-mounted shift-by-wire system, paired with a flat-bottom, three-spoke multifunction steering wheel. The center console includes a 50W wireless fast-charging pad for smartphones and physical buttons for key functions. Since its launch in July 2025, the Sealion 06 has achieved remarkable sales momentum—exceeding 30,000 units in its first month and reaching cumulative deliveries of 100,000 units within 100 days, with annual sales surpassing 160,000 units. The 2026 Sealion 05 brings proven technologies from the Sealion 06—such as Cloud Ride-C and advanced intelligent driving features—down to the RMB 100,000–130,000 price segment. In 2025, the Sealion 05 DM-i recorded cumulative sales of approximately 30,000 units, while the EV variant reached monthly sales of up to 14,000 units in certain months. Due to the model transition, sales of the outgoing generation temporarily declined in early 2026. However, following the new model’s launch—with doubled range, lower pricing, and upgraded features—market interest has quickly rebounded. By the end of 2025, BYD’s Ocean Network had expanded to cover virtually every prefecture-level city nationwide. The Sealion 05 and Sealion 06 share a common after-sales service and spare parts ecosystem. In Q1 2026, the Ocean Network established a dedicated product expert team for the Sealion family to enhance consumer understanding of the models’ positioning. The Sealion family is emerging as the Ocean Network’s third major growth pillar, following the Seagull and Seal. The launch of the 2026 Sealion 05 further strengthens its competitiveness in the RMB 100,000–160,000 segment.
