On April 28, 2024, Xin Guobin, Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology of China, met in Beijing with Sigrid de Vries, Secretary General of the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA). The two sides exchanged views on topics including China-EU automotive industry policies and industrial cooperation. Xin Guobin stated that 2024 marks the first year of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan period, and China will continue to expand high-standard opening-up, supporting foreign enterprises—including European automakers—to develop in China and jointly build an open, inclusive, mutually beneficial, and cooperative industrial ecosystem. He expressed hope that ACEA would continue playing its role as a bridge, guiding industry players to invest in and deepen their engagement with the Chinese market. Xin also noted that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is willing to work closely with ACEA to foster collaborative innovation between European automakers and Chinese companies across the upstream and downstream segments of the automotive supply chain, thereby driving high-quality industrial development. De Vries remarked that the global automotive industry is rapidly transitioning toward electrification, automation, and intelligent mobility, creating new opportunities for deeper China-EU cooperation. She emphasized that ACEA highly values collaboration with China and will continue strengthening strategic alignment and policy coordination to elevate bilateral automotive industry cooperation to a higher level.
