The Volkswagen ID.Polo made its global debut at 18:00 Beijing time on April 29. As the first all-new model fully embracing Volkswagen’s new design language—following the updated ID.3 Neo—it was led in design direction by Andreas Mindt. The ID.Polo traces its styling roots to the ID.2 all concept unveiled in 2023, with the production version closely mirroring the concept car’s appearance. Inside, the ID.Polo continues the design philosophy of the ID.2 all concept, adopting a scheme dubbed “Premium Touch.” While retaining large displays, it reintroduces numerous physical controls. The cabin features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13-inch horizontally oriented central touchscreen. The previously controversial touch-sensitive sliders for volume and climate control have been eliminated; instead, a row of physical buttons beneath the screen now handles functions like heating, air conditioning, and hazard lights. A multifunction rotary knob remains onboard, allowing users to adjust volume or switch between tracks and radio stations. The new steering wheel features two sets of physical buttons on its spokes: the left set manages cruise control and other driver-assistance functions, while the right controls infotainment and display settings. To enhance perceived quality, the dashboard is covered with fabric panels, and contrast stitching appears on both door trims and seats, with an overall color palette inspired by “ocean tones.” The fabrics used for seats and door panels are made from thermoplastic materials sourced from recycled plastic bottles. The vehicle’s infotainment system offers customizable interfaces, including a retro mode inspired by the original Golf that displays a classic analog-style instrument cluster. The audio player even simulates the spinning animation of vintage cassette tapes. The upgraded infotainment system delivers simpler, more intuitive operation, and the navigation platform allows seamless switching between Volkswagen’s proprietary system and Google Maps. In terms of dimensions, the ID.Polo closely matches its combustion-engine Polo counterpart. Thanks to the flat floor enabled by its dedicated EV architecture and the centralized packaging of the motor and key mechanical components in the front compartment, interior space is significantly optimized. Volkswagen claims the ID.Polo offers cabin room comparable to that of a Golf, along with a generous 435-liter trunk capacity.
