March 2026 China Car & SUV Sales Rankings: Domestic Brands Dominate as NEVs Lead the Market

In March 2026, sales data from China's passenger vehicle market showed that domestic brands dominated both key segments—sedans and SUVs—with new energy vehicles (NEVs) delivering standout performances. Among the top ten best-selling sedans, NEVs swept the top three spots: Geely Galaxy Starship led with 40,613 units sold, followed by BYD Seagull at 30,636 units, and Tesla Model 3 at 29,814 units. The highest-ranking internal combustion engine (ICE) model was the Nissan Sylphy, which came in fourth with 27,514 units. Other ICE models in the top ten included the Volkswagen Lavida (19,528 units), Sagitar (18,447 units), Magotan (17,575 units), and Toyota Camry (16,973 units). NEVs and ICE vehicles each claimed five spots in the top ten, but NEVs occupied all top-three positions. In the SUV segment, the Tesla Model Y topped the chart with 42,662 units sold, making it the only model to exceed 40,000 units that month. Chery’s Exeed 06 ranked second with 29,474 units, followed by the Chery Tiggo 7/7 Plus at 26,895 units. BYD had three models in the top ten: Song Plus (24,787 units), Song Pro (24,497 units), and Yuan (23,899 units). The Li Auto i6 sold 24,198 units, placing sixth. Also making the list were the MG ZS (20,983 units) and Geely Bin Yue/Bin Yue Pro (20,872 units). Among joint-venture brands, only the Toyota RAV4 made the top ten, selling 22,634 units and ranking eighth. Overall, domestic brands held the majority of positions in both segments, with NEVs demonstrating clear advantages in both sales volume and rankings, while joint-venture brands continued to see their market share shrink.
