Chinese EV Makers Report April 2026 Sales and Exports; Global Market Share Projected at 56%

In April 2026, BYD sold 321,123 vehicles, including 314,100 passenger cars. Its overseas sales reached 134,542 units, up 70.9% year-over-year, marking a new monthly record. Chery Group reported sales of 251,386 vehicles that month, an increase of 25.2% year-over-year; exports surged 102.4% year-over-year to 177,573 units, setting a new record for China’s single-month auto exports; and its NEV (new energy vehicle) sales totaled 100,276 units, up 63.8% year-over-year. Zeekr delivered 31,787 vehicles in April, a 132% year-over-year increase, bringing its cumulative global deliveries past the 750,000 mark. XPeng delivered 31,011 vehicles—the best monthly performance since the start of 2026. Li Auto delivered 34,085 vehicles, bringing its all-time cumulative deliveries to 1,669,442 units. NIO delivered 29,356 vehicles, up 22.8% year-over-year; its cumulative deliveries for the first four months reached 112,821 units, up 71.0% year-over-year, with total cumulative deliveries hitting 1,110,413 units. Huawei’s Aito (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) delivered 32,759 vehicles, up 18.9% year-over-year, with January–April cumulative deliveries growing 36% year-over-year. Leapmotor delivered 71,387 vehicles, up 73.9% year-over-year, achieving a new monthly high. Industry data shows that China’s share of the global battery electric vehicle (BEV) market is projected to reach 56% in 2026. Previously, China held approximately 63% of the global BEV market from 2023 to 2025. In 2025, China accounted for 68.3% of the global NEV passenger car market, which declined to 61% in Q1 2026.
