On October 28 local time, Volkswagen announced that its first dismantling line in Zwickau, Saxony, Germany, has officially begun operations. The line consists of eight stations and is currently responsible for dismantling pre-production vehicles. In the future, it will process end-of-life vehicles and recover original production parts from vehicles of brands under the Volkswagen Group for distribution. By 2027, the line is expected to employ 100 people, operate on a two-shift basis, and have an annual processing capacity of 4,100 vehicles. Volkswagen Group established the line to adapt to the European recycling quota system that will take effect in 2032.
