On November 8, Porsche announced an upgrade to the in-car computing power for the 911, Taycan, Panamera, and Cayenne. This week, Porsche released the new-generation Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system, whose computing power is up to five times that of the previous generation. The new system adopts an all-new hardware architecture, improving head unit startup and app loading speeds. Porsche is bringing the digital interaction system first introduced in the all-electric Cayenne to the 911, Taycan, Panamera, and both combustion-engine and hybrid versions of the Cayenne. The new interface offers five themes and customizable desktop widgets. The central display can generate a 3D vehicle model in a color matching the actual car, and drivers can rotate to view it and tap the model to adjust certain vehicle settings. The new-generation voice navigation is developed based on a large language model, supporting understanding of everyday spoken language, answering follow-up questions, and executing multi-step commands. Drivers can use voice to operate navigation, the entertainment system, certain vehicle functions, and compatible apps. The upgraded Navigation+ provides 3D maps and real-time traffic information. The charging planner for all-electric models can arrange charging stations based on the driving route and take into account the need to precondition the battery in advance. After upgrading to the latest PCM system, owners can use Apple Music from the Porsche App Center, and compatible BOSE and Burmester sound systems support Dolby Atmos spatial audio. The new system improves the phone connectivity experience and supports OTA software updates. The all-new infotainment system will be gradually applied to newly produced models, with specific availability depending on the model, market, and production date.
