On April 21, a Tesla Model S exploded in Shanghai, causing many luxury cars in the garage to burn or be damaged. On May 4, IIA learned from Hong Kong Economic Times that a Tesla self-ignition incident occurred in Hong Kong on Monday. A Model S, which was parked for half an hour after charging, suddenly caught fire and accompanied by an explosion. The front part was burned. The two incidents are less than 30 days apart.

The electric car burst into flames 30 minutes after being parked in the city’s San Po Kong district on Sunday, the newspaper said, with three explosions seen on CCTV footage. The car was not charging. Firemen took 45 minutes to douse the fire.

The owner of the car said that he complained to Tesla several times before the incident that he had a problem with his car battery. In the morning before the incident, he used the Tesla Supercharger to charge the car to 97%. However, whether the blast is related to the fast charging is still unknown.

On the evening of April 21, a white Tesla Model S erupted into flames at an underground garage in Shanghai, causing many luxury cars in the garage to be burned or damaged. The cause of this blast is still in investigation.

Counting on the self-ignition of Tesla Model S in Guangzhou on March 26 and another one in San Francisco on May 3, there have been four Tesla Model S self-ignition incidents in just three months. What the cause of the self-ignition? IIA will stay tuned.
