On November 8, 2019, SAIC-Volkswagen's new energy plant in Anting, Shanghai was officially completed. The new plant is the result of the continuous deepening of cooperation between SAIC Motor and Volkswagen Group in electrification, intelligent networking and high-end brands. It is also an important milestone in the transformation and upgrading of SAIC Volkswagen. On February 21, the Shanghai Development and Reform Commission announced a list of major construction projects in Shanghai in 2020. Among the list, the SAIC-Volkswagen MEB plant project has entered the list of advanced manufacturing projects in the technology industry.
The SAIC-Volkswagen New Energy Vehicle Plant in Anting, Shanghai is the first Volkswagen Group's new factory built exclusively for the production of MEB platform models. The total investment of the project is 17 billion yuan, and the planned annual production capacity is 300,000 vehicles. It will be officially put into production in October 2020. It is currently the largest and most efficient pure electric vehicle factory in China.
According to the plan, by 2023 Volkswagen will have 10 I.D. models in the Chinese market. At present, various production preparations for the subsequent models of the MEB plant have been fully launched, and the new car is expected to officially debut in the second half of 2020.
