Stellantis recently announced it will gradually discontinue plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models in the North American market starting with the 2026 model year, including the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, Grand Cherokee 4xe, and Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. The company stated this move is driven by shifting customer demand and a strategic realignment of its product portfolio, with future focus shifting toward conventional hybrids and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) that do not require external charging. Some PHEV models had previously been discontinued due to reliability issues and limited market competitiveness, offering only about 22 miles of all-electric range. Despite scaling back its PHEV offerings, Stellantis continues to advance multiple battery-electric and extended-range models, such as the Dodge Charger EV, Jeep Wagoneer S, and Ram EV. Currently, U.S. automakers are broadly reassessing their EV strategies—Ford and General Motors have both recently written down EV-related assets—though sales of certain electric models continue to grow.
