Porsche has publicly acknowledged that its 2019 decision to discontinue the combustion-engine Macan and fully transition to an all-electric version was a misjudgment. Former CEO Oliver Blume stated that due to slowing demand for premium electric vehicles and regulatory rollouts in certain markets falling short of expectations, sales of the all-electric Macan have underperformed forecasts. In response, the company plans to launch a new compact internal-combustion SUV by 2028, positioned below the Cayenne but not bearing the "Macan" nameplate. The vehicle will be built on Volkswagen Group’s PPC combustion platform and will emphasize distinctly "Porsche-like" driving dynamics. Additionally, the 718 model line, originally slated for full electrification, will retain both internal-combustion and hybrid powertrain options. Porsche is now adjusting its strategy to maintain a multi-powertrain approach for the foreseeable future.
