In 2025, Mercedes-Benz sold 168,800 all-electric vehicles, a 9% year-over-year decline, while BMW Group’s electric vehicle sales reached 442,072 units during the same period, up 3.6% year-over-year. Mercedes-Benz’s total global passenger car sales also fell by 9% to 1.8 million units, with deliveries in China plunging by 19%. Facing intense competition from domestic Chinese brands like BYD and weak consumer demand, Mercedes-Benz is pinning its hopes on the new electric CLA and GLC models to revitalize its market performance. Although the CLA was named “European Car of the Year” and already has orders booked into the second half of 2026, its premium-focused strategy continues to face significant challenges in price-sensitive markets. Meanwhile, Volkswagen’s all-electric vehicle sales in China plummeted by 44%, though its global EV deliveries rose by nearly one-third.
