On January 13, Shenzhen Power Supply Bureau of China Southern Power Grid successfully completed Shenzhen’s first electricity billing settlement for vehicle-to-grid (V2G) discharge from a new energy vehicle. Mr. Li, the car owner, discharged approximately 20 kWh back to the grid during peak hours and earned about RMB 15, becoming one of Shenzhen’s first users to participate in V2G grid feed-in. According to a 2025 approval from Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, the feed-in tariff for new energy vehicles follows peak, flat, and off-peak pricing ratios, with a benchmark rate of RMB 0.453 per kWh. As one of China’s first pilot cities for large-scale vehicle-to-grid integration, Shenzhen is leveraging pricing mechanisms to encourage “charging during off-peak hours and discharging during peak hours,” thereby unlocking the “mobile energy storage” potential of new energy vehicles and alleviating grid stress. In June 2025, Shenzhen conducted a large-scale reverse discharge demonstration, during which over 2,500 vehicle trips discharged more than 70,000 kWh in five days—the highest single-round discharge volume recorded nationwide. Additionally, Shenzhen has introduced policies to support the industrialization of key V2G equipment, offering subsidies of up to RMB 15 million per project.
