On January 6, a serious traffic accident occurred on Wuxiang Avenue in Nanning, Guangxi, when an Avatr electric vehicle traveling at over 100 km/h rear-ended 15 vehicles ahead, causing damage to multiple cars and minor injuries to several people. The driver claimed the incident was caused by a malfunction of the vehicle’s driver-assistance system. However, on January 13, Yong Jun, Vice President of Avatr Technology, responded that according to feedback from traffic police and verification of backend data, the vehicle was under manual control throughout the entire incident, ruling out any technical fault with the vehicle. The company is currently assisting the customer with insurance claims and damage assessment. Traffic was severely disrupted on the night of the accident but resumed normal flow by 9 p.m. Backed by Changan Automobile, Huawei, and CATL, Avatr reported revenue of RMB 12.208 billion in the first half of 2025 but remains in a loss-making state.
