On January 14, 2026, FAW-Volkswagen Jetta Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. officially launched operations in Chengdu, marking Jetta’s evolution from a standalone brand into a full-fledged technology company encompassing the entire value chain of R&D, production, and sales. The new entity will focus on the new energy vehicle (NEV) segment and plans to launch five new models by 2028, four of which will be NEVs, aiming to address the lagging pace of electrification among joint-venture brands. Operating under a new model of “government-enterprise collaboration and Sino-foreign integration,” the company leverages local government support, FAW Group’s manufacturing and supply chain capabilities, and Volkswagen Group’s global electric platforms and technological resources, while also gaining greater autonomy in market decision-making. Jetta will further capitalize on Chengdu’s and Sichuan Province’s robust new energy industrial ecosystem to drive regional cluster upgrades and utilize its shareholders’ resources to expand into overseas markets, targeting annual sales and production of 400,000–500,000 vehicles in the medium term. Despite its clear strategic direction, key challenges remain—including the allocation of technological authority, operational synergy efficiency, and intense market competition.
