In 2025, Tesla sold approximately 10,600 vehicles in Japan, a 90% year-over-year increase, setting a new record high. This achievement stemmed from its expanded retail presence and adjusted localization strategies. Since Richi Hashimoto took over as Managing Director for Japan in September 2024, Tesla has added 16 new showrooms in shopping malls, bringing its total number of stores to 29 by year-end and extending coverage to new regions such as Okinawa and Hokkaido. The company also comprehensively revamped employee training programs to enhance product knowledge and customer service capabilities. In 2025, Tesla’s average sales per store reached 366 vehicles—significantly outpacing Mercedes-Benz (250.5 units) and BMW (210.2 units). Meanwhile, Tesla plans to expand its Supercharger network in Japan to over 1,000 stations by 2027 and is expected to launch its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system in the country later this year. Against a backdrop of declining global sales, Japan has emerged as one of Tesla’s few bright spots for growth.
