On January 15, Beijing Off-Road released a teaser for the BJ81 2.0 Co-Creation Edition, which is set to make its official debut soon. As an upgraded model deeply co-developed with user input, the BJ81 evolves from the BJ80 and retains iconic design elements such as the five-slot grille and round headlights, delivering a retro yet rugged appearance. Detail-wise, it features Brembo green brake calipers, 22-inch blacked-out wheels, and steel tube door guards. The rear adopts barn-style doors and a side-mounted spare tire. In terms of off-road capability, the new model is expected to use a body-on-frame construction and be equipped with part-time four-wheel drive, an electronically controlled rear differential lock, crawl control, and an Advanced Terrain System (ATS) offering nine terrain modes. It boasts a minimum ground clearance of 215 mm and a wading depth of up to 750 mm, complemented by a transparent underbody view and water-fording sensors. For safety and comfort, it includes full-speed-range adaptive cruise control (ACC), 360-degree surround-view camera, automatic emergency braking (AEB), lane-keeping assist, and multiple active and passive safety systems. Powertrain options may include a range-extended system, potentially outperforming the current BJ80’s 2.3T or 3.0T engines.
