On January 16, SAIC-GM issued a statement saying that numerous online platforms have recently been flooded with maliciously fabricated rumors targeting MPV models such as the Buick GL8. These false claims were systematically and deliberately disseminated by organized internet trolls. The accounts involved fabricated misleading information by staging dealership scenes and selectively exaggerating minor details to maliciously disparage Buick MPVs, severely damaging the brand's image and market reputation. SAIC-GM stated that such actions have gone far beyond the bounds of fair competition and are disrupting industry order. The company has already filed a report with the public security authorities and will pursue legal accountability against the masterminds, operating agencies, and individuals involved. The company emphasized its respect for healthy competition and its commitment to putting customer needs first. It also pledged continued cooperation with the ongoing nationwide campaign—jointly led by six government departments—to rectify online misconduct in the automotive industry, thereby safeguarding a clean cyberspace and promoting the sector’s healthy development.
