The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has granted Tesla a five-week extension to submit its response to an investigation into whether its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system has caused vehicles to violate traffic laws. The original deadline has been extended to February 23. On Friday, NHTSA stated the extension was granted at Tesla’s request for additional time to manually review thousands of relevant records to identify incidents potentially involving traffic violations. The investigation focuses on whether vehicle behavior while the FSD system is engaged complies with traffic regulations and is part of regulators’ ongoing scrutiny of the safety of Tesla’s autonomous driving technology.
