After a five-year hiatus, the iconic rugged SUV Mitsubishi Pajero is set to make a comeback. According to foreign media reports, Mitsubishi Motors President Takao Kato confirmed at the Tokyo Auto Salon that an all-new generation of the Pajero will launch in 2026. The new model will be independently developed based on the Triton pickup truck platform and will be powered by a 2.4-liter twin-turbo diesel engine producing 201 horsepower and 470 N·m of torque. A plug-in hybrid variant is also expected, leveraging technology from the Outlander PHEV with a combined output of 248 horsepower. Although earlier rumors suggested it might share a platform with the Nissan Patrol, Japanese media indicate the vehicle will instead use a dedicated engineering solution. The Pajero is expected to be priced between ¥5.5 million and ¥7.5 million (approximately RMB 243,000–331,000) in Japan, while overseas pricing remains unconfirmed.
