Canada has announced a sharp reduction in the 100% tariff it previously imposed on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs), lowering it to approximately 6%, and will allow up to 49,000 Chinese EVs to enter its market annually. Analysts at investment bank Bernstein noted that this move will significantly boost market confidence in Chinese EV manufacturers, with BYD standing to benefit the most. According to the report, BYD—backed by its extensive and competitively priced EV lineup and its leading position in multiple global markets—is well-positioned to swiftly capitalize on this new opportunity. However, the policy also intensifies competitive pressure on brands already established in Canada, including Tesla, Hyundai, Kia, Ford, and Toyota.
