Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently revealed on X that the design of the AI5 chip for the Full Self-Driving (FSD) system is nearing completion, and development of the next-generation AI6 chip has already begun. He plans to shorten the chip iteration cycle to nine months and is actively recruiting talent for what he describes as the “world’s largest-volume chip production project.” Last year, Tesla signed a $16.5 billion agreement with Samsung Electronics to outsource the manufacturing of the AI6 chip. Additionally, Musk announced the revival of the previously halted Dojo3 supercomputer project—an initiative aimed at building an in-house AI supercomputer to support Tesla’s autonomous driving and humanoid robotics businesses. In August last year, Tesla disbanded the Dojo team and reallocated engineering resources; its renewed push underscores the company’s intensified commitment to expanding its AI computing capabilities.
