The 2026 Honda Prelude starts at a steep $43,195 yet offers only 200 horsepower, leading many consumers to deem it overpriced. In response, Prelude development manager Tomoyuki Yamanokami acknowledged market concerns about the pricing but emphasized that Honda believes the current price aligns with its market positioning. Although initial media reviews widely criticized the car as "too expensive," actual sales have far exceeded expectations—Japan’s annual allocation of 2,000 units sold out in the first year, and the U.S. market saw 174 units sold in its debut month (November), surpassing the company’s projections. However, Honda never intended to sell the model in large volumes from the outset. Looking ahead, Yamanokami stated the company is “listening to feedback” and “considering next steps,” hinting at a potentially more affordable version in the future—though a near-term price reduction appears unlikely.
