On March 17, Lei Jun, founder of Xiaomi, responded to user questions online, acknowledging that discontinuing the first-generation SU7 ahead of schedule did impact sales in the first three months, but emphasized, "We didn’t want to let down our early users." He described Xiaomi Auto’s journey over the past two years as “turbulent and polarizing—like fire and ice,” and stressed that “car manufacturing is a marathon.” The new-generation SU7 will officially launch on March 19 at 19:00 (Beijing time). All variants will come standard with nine airbags, a 2,200 MPa ultra-high-strength steel roll cage, and Xiaomi’s Super Motor V6s Plus. The mechanical door handle unlock function has also been improved. The new model will be available in three trims: Standard (RMB 229,900), Pro (RMB 259,900), and Max (RMB 309,900). Small deposits are now open for reservation, and physical vehicles are already available at 492 stores across 143 cities nationwide. With production of the first-generation SU7 ending in February (having delivered over 381,000 units cumulatively), the YU7 has become Xiaomi’s current primary delivery model. Xiaomi aims to deliver 550,000 vehicles in 2026.
