Audi has halted orders for the A8 in Germany for a month. Although it hasn't officially announced the model's discontinuation, such a move typically signals that the vehicle is nearing the end of its lifecycle. The latest annual report also made no mention of this flagship sedan, fueling further speculation about its future. Audi clarified that the upcoming three-row SUV, the Q9, will not directly replace the A8. Instead, the A8 is expected to return in some form toward the end of this decade—most likely still as a sedan—to avoid overlapping with the Q9. The Grandsphere concept car, previously seen as a potential electric successor to the A8, has remained unproduced for nearly five years. The A8 continues to be sold in markets such as the U.S. and China. As Mercedes-Benz updates its S-Class and BMW prepares to launch a refreshed 7 Series, the luxury full-size sedan segment is increasingly becoming a two-horse race among German automakers. In the interim, the Q9 will serve as Audi’s new flagship, built on Volkswagen Group’s PPC internal-combustion platform. Whether the next-generation A8 will retain an internal combustion engine remains to be seen.
