According to a recent report by Bank of America, the global number of humanoid robots could reach 3 billion units by 2060—far exceeding the current global vehicle fleet of approximately 1.5 billion cars. The report states that in 2027, humanoid robots will be primarily deployed in warehousing and logistics (33%), the automotive industry (24%), and manufacturing (15%). Companies such as Tesla, Xiaomi, and BMW have already begun integrating humanoid robots into their production lines. In terms of investment, funding in this sector is projected to surge from $700 million in 2018 to $4.3 billion by 2025. Shipments are also expected to skyrocket from 90,000 units in 2026 to 1.2 million units by 2030, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 86%. However, high costs remain a major barrier to widespread adoption. In 2025, the raw material cost for a humanoid robot in China is estimated at around $35,000, while in Western countries it ranges from $90,000 to $100,000. The report forecasts that costs in China may not fall below $17,000 until 2030.
