To boost consumer spending, several cities in Jiangsu Province—including Nanjing, Suzhou, Changzhou, Zhenjiang, and Xuzhou—jointly announced new subsidies for purchasing automobiles on the evening of March 21. The subsidies target individuals buying new passenger vehicles for personal use, with eligible new energy vehicles required to be listed in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s tax-exempt catalog. The subsidies are tiered based on the vehicle’s invoice price: - For vehicles priced between RMB 50,000 and RMB 100,000: RMB 1,000 for fuel-powered cars and RMB 2,000 for new energy vehicles (NEVs); - Between RMB 100,000 and RMB 200,000: RMB 3,000 for fuel-powered cars and RMB 4,000 for NEVs; - Between RMB 200,000 and RMB 400,000: RMB 5,000 for fuel-powered cars and RMB 6,000 for NEVs; - Above RMB 400,000: RMB 6,000 for fuel-powered cars and RMB 7,000 for NEVs. The subsidies operate on a “first-come, first-served” basis until funds are exhausted. They cannot be combined with provincial-level subsidies for vehicle scrappage or trade-in programs; however, cities like Zhenjiang and Xuzhou allow these subsidies to be used alongside manufacturer discounts.
