Starting at 24:00 tonight, domestic refined oil prices will see their fifth increase of the year—and the largest so far in 2024. According to Zhuochuang Information, prices for Grade 92 gasoline, Grade 95 gasoline, and Grade 0 diesel will rise by RMB 1.73, RMB 1.83, and RMB 1.87 per liter, respectively. Filling up a standard 50-liter tank with Grade 92 gasoline will cost drivers approximately RMB 86.5 more. Following this adjustment, Grade 92 gasoline prices are expected to enter the "RMB 9-per-liter era" nationwide, significantly increasing vehicle operating costs. Sinopec has already sent text messages to its members advising them to refuel during off-peak hours—a move that sparked widespread online discussion, with many users commenting, “It’s the first time I’ve received such a reminder.” So far this year, China’s fuel prices have undergone four increases and one suspension; if this latest hike proceeds as scheduled, the tally will become five increases and one suspension.
