Audi's Formula 1 team has had a rocky start to the 2026 season, scoring only two points and sitting eighth in the constructors' standings. Recently, team principal Jonathan Wheatley unexpectedly announced his departure, officially citing "personal reasons." However, multiple reports indicate he is set to join Aston Martin, taking over the team principal role vacated by Adrian Newey. Aston Martin is currently mired in its own struggles, with its cars unable to finish races due to severe vibration issues stemming from its Honda power unit. Newey has already shifted his focus exclusively to technical troubleshooting. Wheatley had previously expressed strong alignment with Audi’s ambitious F1 project ahead of the R26 launch, but his exit after just two races has raised concerns about the stability of Audi’s F1 program. His move is believed to be motivated by a desire to return to the UK, a lucrative salary offer, and a personal commitment to helping revive a British team.
