According to a report from GM Inside News, Chevrolet plans to drop the continuously variable transmission (CVT) currently used in front-wheel-drive (FWD) models of the Equinox for the 2027 model year, replacing it with an 8-speed automatic transmission. This move is seen as a response to longstanding consumer dissatisfaction with the CVT driving experience. Currently, the 2026 Equinox’s 1.5L turbocharged engine is paired exclusively with a conventional automatic transmission in all-wheel-drive (AWD) variants, while FWD models come standard with the CVT. AWD is available as an option for an additional $2,000. Beyond the transmission change, the 2027 Equinox will introduce a new "Harvest Metallic" exterior paint color, replacing the discontinued Cactus Green. RS trims will also feature Torch Red stitching throughout the interior for a more cohesive look. Additionally, the vehicle will gain a new connected camera system as part of its Safety and Technology Package. The 2026 Equinox starts at $30,795 (including destination fees), and the 2027 model is expected to see a modest price increase.
