Germany's Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) recently announced that Volkswagen will recall nearly 100,000 electric vehicles, approximately 28,000 of which are in Germany. The recall affects around 75,000 Volkswagen ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, and ID. Buzz models, as well as nearly 20,000 Cupra Born vehicles produced between February 2022 and August 2024. The recall stems from non-compliant modules in the high-voltage batteries, which could lead to significantly reduced driving range, illumination of dashboard warning lights, and—in extreme cases—thermal overload or even fire. Volkswagen stated that no injuries or fatalities related to this issue have been reported so far. Dealers will perform a software update on the affected vehicles and, where necessary, replace the high-voltage battery modules. Owners of impacted vehicles will receive repair notifications in the coming days. Previously, in January 2026, Volkswagen had already recalled over 43,000 ID.4 vehicles in the United States for the same reason.
