Cupra originally planned to enter the U.S. market by 2030 with a lineup including hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and internal combustion engine models. However, due to "ongoing challenges" and an "evolving market environment," the Volkswagen Group announced in July last year that it was postponing the plan. Cecilia Taieb, Cupra's Global Communications Head, recently told Edmunds that the brand has only "paused" its U.S. entry timeline and has not canceled the plan entirely. CEO Markus Haupt added that the company will reassess the situation once geopolitical conditions become "somewhat more stable." Earlier this year, in early 2025, Cupra had announced a partnership with Penske to open up to 20 showrooms, but delayed the initiative just months later. Currently, the brand is focusing on expanding into the Middle East while keeping the possibility of entering the U.S. market open for the future.
