The Ford Mustang GTD has reportedly returned to the Nürburgring Nordschleife recently, lapping the circuit in 6 minutes and 41.74 seconds to set a new personal best and reclaim its title as the fastest American production car. Previously, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X briefly surpassed the Mustang GTD’s earlier record of 6:52.072 with a time of 6:49.275. According to footage uploaded by Statesidesupercars, this latest test may have involved an upgraded GTD variant—possibly dubbed the GTD Evo—featuring enhanced aerodynamic components. Powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine producing 814 horsepower, the GTD carries a price tag exceeding $300,000 and incorporates GT3 race car technology, including a semi-active rear suspension, carbon-fiber driveshaft, and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Although Nürburgring lap times can vary slightly due to measurement tolerances, even conservative estimates confirm the Mustang GTD remains firmly at the top. This ongoing performance rivalry between Ford and Chevrolet continues to push American supercars to new limits.
