Facebook Marketplace recently rolled out an update allowing users to react with the "laugh-cry" emoji and leave comments on secondhand item listings. This change has been hailed by the car community "Mile High Misfits" as a powerful tool to combat inflated asking prices for older vehicles. The account pointed out that many Baby Boomer sellers are listing ordinary used cars—such as a 2009 Dodge Challenger with torn interior—at prices far exceeding market value, sometimes approaching or even surpassing Kelley Blue Book estimates. Now, instead of silently scrolling past these listings, buyers can publicly "mock" unreasonable pricing, helping push prices back toward realistic levels. Data shows that similar vehicles are selling for significantly less on platforms like Autotrader compared to their Marketplace asking prices. As 76 million Baby Boomers enter retirement and increasingly sell off their stored vehicles, market supply is surging—making it even harder for non-rare models to sustain high prices. The post has already garnered 81,000 views, with many commenters saying they’ve already started “actively using” the new feature to collectively pressure sellers into lowering used-car prices.
