A New Hampshire car buyer hired a professional negotiator to avoid the hassle of haggling over a new vehicle’s price. However, “Preacher Pete,” a salesperson at a local Toyota dealership, shared his experience on TikTok, saying the move was unnecessary—the dealership routinely offers its best price over the phone and handles five to ten such deals daily without requiring customers to visit in person. What’s more, the negotiator insisted on handling the vehicle registration himself, only to call the dealership two weeks later struggling with the process. During the call, he reportedly became rude and even hung up abruptly. As a result, the dealership had to redo all the paperwork and personally complete the registration and tax procedures for the customer. Pete emphasized that his dealership regularly handles everything remotely for out-of-state buyers and isn’t running a “scam.” While some online commenters questioned his claims, experts caution that if you do hire a negotiator, it’s still advisable to let the dealership manage post-purchase processes like registration—typically free of charge and far more efficient.
