Luke Fischer, a Chevrolet owner, shared his price-comparison experience on social media, bluntly stating, “O’Reilly beats NAPA hands down,” and criticizing NAPA for charging excessively high prices for the same parts. A recent investigation by Cheapism into four major auto parts chains—NAPA, AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, and O’Reilly—found that O’Reilly generally offers the lowest prices overall. However, no single retailer consistently wins across all product categories, so the outlet still recommends comparing prices before purchasing. NAPA operates under an independent franchise model, allowing individual stores to set their own prices, which often leads to significant price variations for identical parts. Although NAPA is known for carrying professional-grade and hard-to-find components, this comes at a higher cost. Additionally, several brands—such as Rancho and Monroe—are actually manufactured by the same company (Tenneco) and differ only in packaging, meaning consumers might save money by avoiding unnecessary “brand premiums.” Online discussions reflect divided opinions: some users warn against AutoZone, while others staunchly support NAPA, highlighting the complexity involved in choosing where to buy auto parts.
