Recently, Binfar Automotive—a new entrant in China’s electric vehicle sector—has come to a complete standstill. Over one hundred current and former employees have collectively filed complaints over prolonged wage arrears and unpaid social insurance and housing fund contributions. Founded in 2021 by Su Weiming, former CEO of Renault China, Binfar Automotive previously secured strategic investments from Dongfeng Motor Corporation and the Renault Group. The company focused on developing its premium electric GT model, the Binfar GT Opus1, priced in the million-yuan range, with mass production originally scheduled for 2024—yet no vehicles have been delivered to date. Employees report that the company has issued no formal notice of suspension, while management has remained largely unreachable and unresponsive to concerns regarding unpaid wages and benefits. The aggrieved employees have put forward clear demands: full payment of all outstanding salaries, back payments of social insurance and housing fund contributions, reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses advanced by employees, and legally mandated severance compensation. They also demand that the company and its shareholders provide a written repayment plan backed by enforceable guarantees. The employees emphasize they will only accept a solution that is fully guaranteed, time-bound, and covers 100% of their claims. They intend to pursue their rights through legal channels, including labor inspection authorities, arbitration, and the courts. As of now, Binfar Automotive has not issued any public statement regarding the situation.
