To comply with new Chinese regulations set to take effect in 2027, BMW has replaced the flush-fitting pop-out door handles used globally on the upcoming long-wheelbase iX3 in China with conventional fixed handles. The vehicle will make its global debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April and go on sale shortly thereafter. The new regulation, introduced for safety reasons, bans such retractable door handles; although existing approved models may continue using them until 2029, BMW has opted to implement the change ahead of schedule. The China-specific iX3 features a wheelbase extended by 108 mm to 3,005 mm, offering more spacious rear seating. It also comes equipped with an ADAS system co-developed with Chinese autonomous driving firm Momenta and includes a roof-mounted spoiler integrated with cameras. With a CLTC-rated range exceeding 900 km, the vehicle supports 400 kW ultra-fast charging, adding approximately 400 km (CLTC) of range in just 10 minutes. Powertrain-wise, it retains the dual-motor all-wheel-drive layout, delivering an estimated output of around 463 horsepower. However, due to the increased length and weight from the extended body, its performance may be slightly inferior to the European version. This model is also slated for export to India, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
