Xiaomi Auto recently responded to user concerns regarding whether the carbon fiber steering wheel affects hands-off detection in its driver assistance system. Due to the inability of carbon fiber material to support built-in capacitive sensors, the system can only detect hand contact at the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions on the steering wheel. To address this, the SU7 models equipped with the optional carbon fiber steering wheel now feature an added torque-sensing function—lightly turning the steering wheel will dismiss the hands-off alert. However, false alerts may still occur. Xiaomi advises users to maintain a standard hand position on the wheel when using driver assistance features and emphasizes that these systems are not autonomous driving—they require the driver’s full attention to road conditions at all times. Additionally, the new-generation SU7 has upgraded its Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system, which now operates across a broader speed range (1–135 km/h for forward collisions and 1–30 km/h for rear collisions). It can detect irregular obstacles such as water-filled barriers, cardboard boxes, and tires, and works in conjunction with features like Automatic Emergency Steering (AES) and Multi-Attention Intelligence (MAI) to enhance overall safety.
