Kansas is set to formally enact the Kansas Motorsports Venue Protection Act (House Bill 2416), designed to shield existing racetracks from civil lawsuits related to issues such as noise. The bill explicitly states that residents who purchase property near a racetrack and later file complaints about noise or nuisance will not be entitled to legal recourse. The legislation previously passed overwhelmingly in the state House of Representatives by a vote of 122–0 and in the state Senate by 38–2, and now awaits Governor Laura Kelly’s signature to become law. Industry observers widely expect the governor not to veto the bill. Similar laws are already in place in Iowa and North Carolina, and several other states are advancing comparable legislation. This measure aims to safeguard legitimate and safe motorsports venues from unwarranted legal disputes triggered by complaints from newcomers to the area.
