On April 1, Li Shujun, General Manager of HiNa Battery Technology, stated that the cost of sodium-ion batteries is rapidly declining and is expected to overlap with that of lithium-ion batteries by 2025. Currently, lithium-ion batteries cost RMB 0.3–0.5 per Wh, while sodium-ion batteries range from RMB 0.5–0.7 per Wh, varying by application scenario. Li forecasts that by 2028, the sodium-ion battery industry will reach a scale of 100 GWh, with cell costs potentially dropping to RMB 0.3 per Wh and energy density exceeding 180 Wh/kg. CATL plans to launch the world’s first mass-produced sodium-ion battery, named “Na-Xin,” in September 2025, covering both traction batteries and 24V integrated start-stop batteries for heavy-duty trucks, supporting operation across a full temperature range from -40°C to 70°C. The company aims to comprehensively promote sodium-ion batteries in battery-swapping systems, passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and energy storage starting in 2026, driving a new era of “twin stars—sodium and lithium—shining together.”
