Ford plans to launch a midsize all-electric pickup truck priced around $30,000 (approximately RMB 207,000), directly competing with Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y. CEO Jim Farley stated that the new vehicle will be built on an entirely new, low-cost EV platform, emphasizing affordability and practicality, with a launch expected next year. This platform could later underpin additional models, potentially including a next-generation Mustang Mach-E. Amid shifting U.S. policies and weaker-than-expected EV sales, Ford has already canceled several pure-electric projects, including the F-150 Lightning, pivoting instead toward hybrid and range-extended vehicles. The company will also equip its new EVs with lower-cost, longer-lasting lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. This strategic shift underscores Ford’s move to recalibrate its electric vehicle approach, targeting the mainstream market with more competitively priced offerings.
