A car mechanic refused a customer's request to rotate tires because one of the tires was severely worn, with exposed steel belts posing a safety hazard. The technician explained that continuing to use the tire could cause the vehicle to lose control and noted that store policy prohibits rotating damaged or unsafe tires. Despite this, the customer insisted on receiving the service. The customer later called the company’s customer service hotline to file a complaint. According to the technician, the company ultimately decided to replace the damaged tire free of charge. Industry standards typically prohibit rotating tires with tread depth below 4/32 of an inch or tires older than six years due to liability risks and safety regulations. A video of the incident sparked online discussion. While most commenters agreed the tire was clearly unsafe for continued use, others suggested the customer might have exploited the complaint system for personal gain. The technician later expressed frustration over such situations and even considered quitting the job.
