A woman, after running out of fuel, chose not to walk to a gas station or contact friends or family for help. Instead, she used AAA (American Automobile Association) roadside assistance to obtain gasoline. She posted a video on TikTok showing an AAA technician refueling her car using a portable fuel can, captioning it as a way to avoid paying the recently high gas prices. According to AAA’s official guidelines, its roadside assistance service provides emergency fuel delivery when a member’s vehicle runs out of gas. Typically, only one to two gallons are delivered—enough to reach the nearest gas station, not to fill the entire tank. Members can request this service through the AAA mobile app or by calling the number on their membership card. The system asks for the vehicle’s required fuel type, current location, and intended destination, then provides an estimated arrival time. Members can track the service’s progress in real time via the app. Service terms vary by region and membership level: Basic members may need to pay for the fuel themselves, while Plus and Premier members receive the fuel at no extra cost. Additionally, most members are entitled to four free service calls per year. Some users have cautioned that frequently using this service for non-emergency situations could exhaust the annual allowance prematurely, potentially leaving members without assistance during genuine emergencies. Excessive use might also affect membership renewal eligibility. There is currently no information indicating whether AAA has imposed any restrictions on or responded to the woman involved in this incident.
