Consumer Reports recently released its latest automotive reliability rankings. Toyota ranked first, followed by Subaru and Lexus in second and third place, respectively, with Honda and BMW rounding out the top five. Tesla climbed eight spots to ninth place, primarily due to improved reliability of the Model 3 and Model Y, although the Cybertruck remains below average; overall build quality and hardware issues have shown some improvement. Mazda dropped eight positions to 14th place—its older models performed steadily, but its new plug-in hybrid models, the CX-70 and CX-90, reported numerous problems. The rankings show Buick placed eighth, the highest among traditional American brands; Ford ranked 11th; and Rivian, a newer electric vehicle maker, came in last. Jaguar and Land Rover were excluded from the rankings due to insufficient data. Overall, Asian brands dominate the top of the list, European brands occupy the middle tier, and American brands generally rank toward the bottom. Fully electric and plug-in hybrid models account for a disproportionately high share of vehicles with lower reliability, while hybrid models remain relatively more stable.
